Recording Techniques
Flanging, Panning, Overdubbing, Bouncing, Reverb
Flanging/Flanged Cymbal
Slowing a tape down to alter the sound waves making them out of sync, producing a sound like wind blowing.
Panning
Different instrumental sounds/voices coming from different speakers.
Overdubbing
Recording multiple tracks over a track to create a chorus effect
Bouncing
Mixing 2 or more previously recorded tracks onto an empty track.
Reverb
Echo effect is applied to a recording to give it the effect of a live performance
Instrumental Techniques
Glissando, Bending, Vibrato, Power Chords, Broken Chords, Distortion
Glissando
Sliding your finger up or down a string after playing a note
Bending
Bending or pushing the string up or down a tone or semitone to alter the sound
Vibrato
Shaking finger on guitar string similar to vibrato on violin
Power chords
Chords played with a doubled root and a fifth but no third
Broken Chords
Playing notes of the chord individually in a rising or descending order instead of simultaneously
Distortion
‘Fuzzy’ sound created by turning up an electric instruments speakers to full volume/using a distortion pedal

Short musical figure like an ostinato/a series of chords used as basis for a solo improvisation. Emphasis usually on the rhythm
