Q

Describe the process of digestion

A

The mouth creates a bolus which is chewed mushed food.
The teeth chew the food and the tongue pushes it.
Food is squeezed in the oesophagus into the stomach
The stomach contains acid. The acid and special chemicals called enzymes break down the good even more.
In the small intestine, the broken down food gets into the blood so the body can use it. It is 6 - 8 metres long.

Q

What is the stomach made off and what is its purpose?

A

The stomach is made of muscular tissue (to churn the food aka mechanical breakdown), nervous tissue (to co-ordinate the muscular contractuons) and glandular tissue (to produce and secretes enzymes, hydrochloric acid and mucus) and epithelial tissue (to cover the outside and inside of the stomach)

Q

Describe some qualities of starch

A

Starch is a large molecule called a polymer
It is a store of extra glucose the plant has mad
It is insoluble
Plants store starch in their roots
Roots can’t produce their own starcch because they don’t do photosynthesis

Q

Describe Gas Exchange

A

When breathing, oxygen moves into your lungs through air, making your lungs an area of high concentration. This means that diffusion will take place, transporting oxygen into the blood capillaries.
Then, the oxygen turns into CO2) by the process of respiration in the blood capillaries. The blood capillaries are now an area of high concentration for CO2, meaning that through diffusion CO2 will go into the lungs. From there, it is breathed out.
