Body system Flashcards
Why is blood important to the body?
Because it carries oxygen and nutrients.
What is plasma?
It is 55% part of our blood.
What are four chambers of you heart and where are they located?
2 atrias on the top & 2 ventricles on the bottom.
What are the tubes that carry blood back towards your heart?
Veins
Which circulation, moves the shortest distance, going from the heart, to the lungs, and back.
Pulmonary circulation.
What is another name for throat?
Pharynx.
Where does the majority of vitamins and nutrients go?
To the small intestine.
What is the sophagus?
The tube inside our throat that allows food and drinks to travel into our stomach.
What is saliva made out of?
Enzymes.
What does the large intestine do?
It absorbs any parts of the food we ate that the body cant use.
What are neurons?
Nerve cells
What is the nervous system made up of?
Billions of neurons, that are bundled up together to make nerves.
What are the three most important parts of neurons?
Cell body, which is in the center of the neuron.
Dendrites, which branch off to talk to other cells close by.
Axons, which connect the cell body to the muscular system.
What are motor nerves and sensory nerves?
Motor nerves transmit singing los from the the brain to the outer parts of the body about moments that muscles make inside the body. Sensory nerves gather info from the 5 senses to tell the brain what going to in the world around.
What are the central nervous system and the peripheral nervous system?
The central nervous system sends messages from your nerves to your brain. The peripheral nervous system consists of all the nerves in the body.
What are muscles attached to?
Bones
How do muscles work?
By expanding and contracting.
Name the 3 types of muscles and what they do.
Skeletal muscles allow your body to move while also giving you power and strength. Smooth muscles control organs within your body. Cardiac muscles work together to pump blood.
What are involuntary muscles and voluntary muscles ?
Involuntary muscles keep the body parts like breathing and blinking moving without us having to tell it to. Voluntary muscles is when we move when we tell it to.
What is the largest muscle in the body.
The booty.
What is the largest and most important organ in the respiratory system?
The two lungs.
What is pharynx?
The back of your mouth
What is larynx?
The voice box.
What is trachea?
The windpipe where the air goes down, it splits into 2 different directions further down in the throat.
What is the diaphragm?
The diaphragm is a muscles that sits right under the lungs, it flattens each time we breathe in to give the lungs the space they need to expand to fill with are.
How many bones are in your body?
206
Are bones layered?
Yes, the thick outer layer is the periosteum which is made out of blood vessels and nerves, below is the compact bone which is made up of its on layers called chancellors bones, which are soft and protect the deepest layer called bone marrow, which is soft like jelly and works hard to make blood cells.
How do the bones make you move?
Since they are not flexible, they are surround by muscles that are attached to the bones by tendons, then the bones connect themselves to one another by joints, which allows you to move back and forth.
What are the 4 different types of bones?
Long bones, which are up bigger body parts (arms, ribs), short bones, which make up mall parts (hands, feet), flat bones make up body parts like the skull and ribs and sesamoid bones which cover unusually shaped places of your body like the kneecap or the ball of your foot.
What the most important bones in the body?
The skull, which protects your brai and forms the structure of you face. Your spine, which has 26 separate bones that allows you to stand, sit down, and turn your body. Your rib cage, which protects your lungs, heart, and other important internal organs.
