- Frontal (Coronal) - divides body or organ into front (anterior) and back (posterior) portions.
- Parasagittal - divides body or organ into any left and right side (uneven)
- Midsagittal - divides body or organ into two equal left and right parts. (Through its midline)
- Transverse- divides body or organ into upper (superior) and lower (inferior) (Horizontal)
Explain anterior & posterior
• Anterior - towards the front
• Posterior- towards the back
Explain superior and inferior
• Superior- towards the head
• Inferior - away from the head
Explain superficial and deep
• Superficial - On or near the surface of body or organ
• Deep - further away from the surface of body or organ
Explain medial and lateral
• Medial - nearer to the midline of the body
• Lateral - further from the midline of the body
Explain proximal and distal
• Proximal - nearer to the attachment of the limb to the trunk of the body.
• Distal - further from the attachment of limb to the trunk of the body.
Explain central and peripheral
• Central - towards the body core, usually in the head or trunk.
• Peripheral - towards the bodies peripheries or extremities.
