The portion of the serous membrane that touches the outside wall (around the heart)
Visceral pericardium
The portion of the serous membrane that touches the heart
Pericardial cavity with serous fluid
A cavity in the body that contains the heart, it is filled with serous fluid that lubricates the heart to stop friction while pumping
Pleura
Serous membrane located in the lungs, filled with serous fluid
Parietal pleura
The part of the serous membrane that connects to the outer wall (lungs)
Visceral pleura
The part of the serous membrane that connects to the lungs
Pleural cavity
The space between the parietal and visceral pleura, contains a small amount a serous fluid
Peritoneum
A serous membrane located in the abdomen
Parietal peritoneum
The part of the serous membrane that connects to the outer wall (abdomen)
Visceral peritoneum
The part of the serous membrane that connects to the inner organs (abdomen)
Peritoneal cavity with serous fluid
A cavity in the abdomen that contains a serous membrane and serous fluid
Retroperitoneal organs
Organs that lie outside of the serous membrane.
