Body Organization & Systems Flashcards
Anatomy
Study of structure and relationships among structures
Dissection
Cutting apart of body structures to study their relationships.
The first way anatomy was studied
Physiology
Study how body parts function (how they work)
Branches of Anatomy
The different methods used to study physical structures of body. There are 11 branches.
Embryology
Study first 8 weeks development (after egg is fertilized)
One branches of anatomy
Developmental Biology
Study developmental history of person - from fertilization to death
Cell biology
Study of cell structure and function
Histology
Study of microscopic structure of tissues
Sectional anatomy
Uses sections of the body to study internal structures and their relationships
Gross anatomy
Study of structures that can be examined without using microscope
Systemic anatomy
Study of the structure of specific systems of the body
Regional anatomy
Study of specific regions of the body (i.e. head or chest)
Surface anatomy
Study of surface landmarks on the body to determine the location and relationships of deeper internal structures hidden from view. Done through visualization and palpation.
Imaging anatomy
Study of internal structures that can be viewed with x-rays, CT scans, MRI etc.
Pathological anatomy
Study of structural changes in body due to disease 🦠 (pathology)
