Body Organization Flashcards
Histology
Study of tissues
Cell Functions
Respond, metabolize, reproduce
Tissue types
Connective tissue, Epithelial tissue, Muscular tissue, Nervous tissue, Body cavities
Connective tissue
Supports the body, protects tissue in the body
Epithelial tissue
Found throughout the body, made up of close packed cells, form the covering and lining at body structures
Muscular tissue
Skeletal muscle (attaches to bone), cardiac muscle (attaches to the heart only), smooth muscle (attaches to internal organs)
Nervous tissue
Forms the brain, spinal cord, and nerves throughout the body, sends information to the brain and the rest of the body.
Body cavities
Cranial cavity(contains the brain), Spinal cavity(contains the spinal cord), Thoracic cavity(contains the lungs), Mediastinum (contains the heart), Diaphragm(separates the thoracic cavity and abdominopelvic cavity), Abdominopelvic cavity (contains the organs of the digestive system, reproductive system, and the excretory system)
