what is BMI used for?
To measure the level of fat in the body in an easy, inexpensive way. It helps people give an idea of whether they are healthy or not.
what is BMI based of?
height and weight
what does BMI a measure of?
A persons weight (kg) divided by their height in metres squared
how do you measure BMI?
BMI = kg/m squared
risks of being underweight for health
Anaemia (causes tiredness), osteoporosis (fragile bones), weak immune system
risks of being overweight for health
heart disease, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, stroke, arthritis
why is BMI not always accurate?
Doesn’t take into account a persons muscle mass, bone density, age or gender which could all affect the results.
what would you tell someone to do if they are underweight/have a low BMI?
Eat more frequently, exercise more, try be more healthy and exercise more often.
what would you tell someone to do if they are overweight/have a high BMI?
Eat a more balanced diet, try living a healthier lifestyle including more exercise
what does BMI stand for?

what is an ideal BMI for most adults?
18.5 - 24.9
If your below, it is casted as underweight, if your in between, your healthy, if your above, your overweight and if your above 30.0, you casted as obese
Why is BMI different for children aged 2-18?
the BMI calculation takes into account age and gender as well as height and weight.
