Body fluid compartments Flashcards
What does ECF consist of
Plasma and interstitial fluid
How do plasma and interstitial fluid exchange substances
Through highly permeable capillary membranes however most proteins too big to permeate so maintained in higher conc in plasma than in interstitial spaces
How is ICF fluid separated from ECF
By membranes highly permeable to water but not permeable to most electrolytes
What are spingolipids
They contain amino alcohols and have hydrophilic-hydrophobic characters
What is the difference between primary and secondary active transport
Primary uses the energy source directly whereas secondary uses it indirectly
What influences rate of transport
- Concentration
- Electrical potential
- Pressure
What is the permeability co-efficient of a solute
It is the rate of movement calculated in cm/sec
