Cranial cavity
Space in the head where the brain lives, surrounded by the skull. Cranial means pertaining to the skull.

Open chamber in the body that holds internal organs
Vertebral cavity
Space within the spinal column and containing the spinal cord. Also called the spinal canal.
Mediastinum
Centrally located space between the lungs, contains heart and major vessels.
Pleural cavity
Space between the pleural membranes.

Cavity that surrounds the heart.
Diaphragm
Muscle separating the abdominal and thoracic cavity. Moves up and down and aids in breathing
Abdominal cavity
Space below the chest. Contains the liver, stomach, gallbladder, and intestines.
Pelvic
Space between the abdomen, containing parts of the intestines, rectum, bladder and the reproductive organs
Abdominopelvic cavity
Cavity that contains the abdomen and pelvis
Ventral cavity
Pertaining to the front. All cavities in front the of the spine or in the front of the body.
Dorsal cavities
Cavities in the back of the body.
Thoracic cavity
Encases everything inside the ribs, included vessels, the heart and the lungs. Above the abdomen
Pleura
Double layer membrane surrounding each lung
