Thoracic Cavtity
space inside chest that contains lungs, heart, and other organs and tissues
mediastinum
divides thoracic cavity into right and left parts, conains heart, thymus, trachea, esophagus, and other structures. lungs are located on each side of mediastinum
abdominal cacity
contains stomach, intestines, liver, spleen, pancreas, and kidneys
pelvic cavity
encased by pelvic bones, contains urinary blatter, part of the large eintestine, and internal reproductive organs.
abdominopelvic cavity
houses both abdominal and pelvic cavities
visceral serous membrane
covers internal organs
serous membranes
cover the organs of trunk cavities and line the trunk cavities
parietal serous membrane
the outer membranes lining a body cavity
percardial cavity
surrounds the heart
pleural cavity
surrounds each lung
peritoneal cavity
covers many organs of the abdominopelvic cavity
Mesentries
part of the peritoneum that hold the abdominal organs in place to provide a passageway for blood vessels and nerves to the organs
retroperitoneal
lovated “behind” the parietal peritoneum
