Dorsal Cavity

The dorsal cavity is subdivided into the cranial and spinal cavities. The cranial cavity is formed by the skull; it contains and protects the brain. The spinal cavity also known as the vertebral canal; protects the spinal cord in a bony cavity created by the vertebrae.

Because the spinal cord is connected to the brain, these two cavities are considered to be continuous to each other.
