anterior/ventral body cavity
largest cavity lined with serous membranes. Contains Thoracic and abdominopelvic cavity divided by the diaphragm.
thoracic cavity
upper subdivision of anterior cavity. Contains two pleural cavities and one pericardial cavity.
pleural cavity
two cavities lined with “pleura”, each holding a lung.
pericardial
cavity holding the heart. Lined with pericardium.
mediastinum
mass between pericardial and pleural cavities.
abdominopelvic cavity
lower cavity beneath the diaphragm. lined with peritoneum. split into abdominal and pelvic regions.
abdominal region
stomach, liver, spleen, pancreas, parts of small and large intestines.
pelvic region
urinary bladder, uterus, and ovaries, and parts of small and large intestines.
posterior/ dorsal body cavity
lined with membranes called meninges. cranial and spinal cavity.
