How is the wedge resection procedure performed?

A
  1. Surgeon will pack the oropharynx with swabs to prevent blood draining into the larynx.
  2. A wedge is removed from the lateral aspect of the ALAR FOLD using a scalpel
  3. The opening is then sutured back into place using simple interrupted suture pattern

What do you need to remember pre operatively

A
  1. Pre oxygenation - Flow by
  2. Low Stress handling
  3. Swift induction
  4. Intubated and tied behind ears or below jaw.

  1. Sternal recumbancy
  2. Support bag or towel under the chin for easy visual
  3. Blanket covering patient - warmth
