Stenotic nares is the narrowing of the nares which compromises respiration

What is the surgical procedure called?
A
Wedge Resection Procedure

How is the wedge resection procedure performed?
A
- Surgeon will pack the oropharynx with swabs to prevent blood draining into the larynx.
- A wedge is removed from the lateral aspect of the ALAR FOLD using a scalpel
- The opening is then sutured back into place using simple interrupted suture pattern

What do you need to remember pre operatively
A
- Pre oxygenation - Flow by
- Low Stress handling
- Swift induction
- Intubated and tied behind ears or below jaw.

Describe the patient positioning
A
- Sternal recumbancy
- Support bag or towel under the chin for easy visual
- Blanket covering patient - warmth
- Place at end of the table
