BM - linear motion in physical activity Flashcards
What is linear motion?
when a body moves in a straight or curved line, with all its parts moving the same distance in the same direction at the same speed. E.G. skeleton bobsleigh.
What is force?
a push or pull that laters, or can alter, the state of motion of a body.
What is inertia?
the resistance of a body to change its state of rest or motion.
What is velocity?
the rate of motion in a particular direction.
What is momentum?
the quantity of motion possessed by a moving body. Momentum = mass X velocity.
What is acceleration?
the rate of change of velocity.
What is action force?
a force exerted ny a performer on another body. E.G. backward and downward force of a sprinter leaving the blocks onto the blocks.
What is reaction force?
an equal and opposite force to the action force exerted by a second body on the first. E.G. the foreward and upward force exerted by the blocks on the sprinter as they leave the blocks.
Define mass
the amount of matter or substance in a body.
Define distance
the path taken in moving from the first position to the second.
What is displacement?
the shortest straight-line route between two positions in a stated direction.
Define speed
a body’s movement per unit of time with no reference to direction.
What is deceleration?
the rate of decrease in velocity. A body will decelerate when velocity decreases over a certain time. (aka negative acceleration).
