Arteries have:
- Thick outer wall
- Thick layer of muscles and elastic fibre
- Smooth lining within the vessel
- Small lumen

Who do arteries need to have high pressure within them?
A
They will need to carry blood at high pressure all around the body. Blood will also need to travel upwards, so it will need pressure to flow the blood cause of gravity pulling it down.

Why do veins have valves?
A
To prevent the back flow of blood and stop blood draining up in one place
