Blood Vessels of Forearm Flashcards
Radial Artery Beginning
The smaller terminal branch of the brachial artery (at the neck of the radius)
Radial Artery Course
- passes on anterior aspect of the radius
- becomes superficial at the wrist, lateral to the tendon of the flexor carpi radialis muscle
- reaches the anatomical snuff box, where it lies on the scaphoid bone
- enters between the 2 heads of the first dorsal interosseous muscle then between
- 2 heads of adductor pollicis
- continues as deep palmar arch
Branches of the radial artery
- radial recurrent branch
- muscular branch
- nutrient artery to radius
- anterior and posterior carpal branches
- superficial palmar branch
- deep palmar arch
- first dorsal metacarpal branch
- radialis indicis
- princeps pollicis
Ulnar Artery Beginning
The larger terminal branch of the brachial artery (at the neck of the radius)
Ulnar Artery Course
- descends in forearm lateral to the ulnar nerce
- enters the hand superficial to the flexor retinaculum
- continues laterally as superficial palmar arch
Ulnar Artery Branches
- anterior and posterior ulnar recurrent
- common interosseous (divides into anterior and posterior interosseous)
- muscular branches
- nutrient artery to ulna
- anterior and posterior carpal branches
- superficial palmar arch
- deep palmar branch
Anastomosis around the scapula is formed between?
- supra scapular artery
- descending scapular artery (deep branch of the transverse cervical artery)
- subscapular artery
Anastomosis around the surgical neck of the humerus is formed between?
-anterior circumflex humeral artery
-posterior circumflex humeral artery
(both from 3rd part of axillary artery)
-deltoid branch of thoracoacromial artery of the 2nd part of the axillary branch
-ascending branch of profunda brachii of brachial artery
Anastomosis around the elbow is formed between?
Brachial Artery Branches:
- superior and inferior ulnar collateral arteries
- anterior and posterior branches of profunda brachii
Ulnar Artery Branches:
- anterior and posterior ulnar recurrent arteries
- interosseous recurrent artery
Radial Artery Branches:
radial recurrent artery
Anastomosis around the wrist (hand) is formed between?
- anterior and posterior carpal arches
- superficial and deep palmar arches in the hand
