Blood vessels Flashcards
1
Q
Components?
A
55% plasma, 45% blood cells and platelets
2
Q
Erythrocytes?
A
a nucleate, have a lifespan of 100-120 days, biconcave, 7x2 micrometers
3
Q
Production of erythrocytes
A
erythropoiesis: prenatally in yolk sac and spleen and liver, postnatally in marrow cavity of bones such as ribs, vertebrae. Leave bone marrow and synthesise Hb , 3 days later they lose all their RER
4
Q
2 types of leukocytes
A
Agranulocytes: lymphocytes, monocytes
Granulocytes: neutrophils, basophils, monocytes
5
Q
Two types of blood vessel
A
Pulmonary - low pressure
Systematic - high pressure
6
Q
Elastic fibres use
A
smooth out pulsatile flow
7
Q
General 3 coat structure
A
Intima = inner layer, smooth, simple squamous, endothelium Media = layer is large in arteries yet thinner in veins, smooth muscle that maintains blood pressure Adventitia = outer, connective tissue, external elastic layer, vast vasorum
8
Q
Phases og Haemostasis? (stopping blood loss)
A
- contraction of smooth muscle so vasoconstriction
- platlets agregate
- Fibrin network over plug 30 sec after injury
- clot dissolved by fibrinolysis
