What are the 3 types of blood vessels?
Arteries, capillaries and veins
What is the function of the arteries?
Arteries transport oxygenated blood away from the left side of the heart
What is the function of the veins?
Veins transport blood from all over the body back to the heart and lungs for re-oxygenation
What is the function of valves?
Valves prevent blood backflow
What is the function of capillaries?
Capillaries carry blood to and from the body’s cells
What are the 4 main blood vessels called?
Aorta, vena cava, pulmonary artery and pulmonary vein
What is the function of the aorta?
It pumps oxygenated blood at high pressure from the heart to the body
What is the function of the vena cava?
Returns deoxygenated blood to the heart
What is the function of the pulmonary artery?
Carries deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lungs
What is the function of the pulmonary vein?
Returns oxygenated blood to the heart
