Blood Values Flashcards
Hb
General: 120-180
F: 120-140
M: 140-180
Hypoxemia vs. Hypoxic
Hypoxemia occurs when the PaO2 in the blood falls below the normal value - less than 80mmHg (as people age their normal PaO2 will drop also, so for an older adult hypoxemia may only occur when PaO2 is below 60mmHg). This would also correlate with a lower SpO2 below 90%.
Hypoxia refers to a lack of oxygen in the tissues or in a specific tissue/organ, with PaO2 dropping below 80mmHg or SpO2 below 90%.
WBC

Plt
150-400
PaO2 - how much oxygen is in the artery (98%)
mild: <80
moderate: 60-80
severe: <60
below 80mmHg = below 90%
SpO2 - saturation of oxygen of hemoglobin
normal = 90/92%
PaCO2
35-45
pH
7.35-7.45
HCO3 bicarbonate
22-26
Base Excess
-2 - +2
PEEP
5-14, never below 5
Pressure Support PS
range 8-22
low: 8-12
mod: 13-16
high: 17-22
Add PEEP and PS
stay under 40
- blow up the lung
FiO2
low: ideal
high: requires mechanical support
- PaO2 is under 60, while more than 50% FiO2 = indication of mechanical ventilation
Levophed
low: 0.01-0.04 ug/kg/min
high: 2.0
