Blood Supply Flashcards
Where do arteries carry oxygenated blood?
arteries carry oxygenated blood AWAY from the heart
Where do veins carry deoxygenated blood?
veins carry deoxygenated blood TO the heart
What is the only exception of blood flow?
the pulmonary artery carries deoxygenated blood from the right side of the heart to the lungs
Right side blood flow
Aorta –> Brachiocephalic –> Common Carotid –> Internal & External Carotids
Left side blood flow
Aorta –> Common Carotid –> Internal & External Carotids
What does the internal common carotid supply?
supplies eyes, brain, and associated structures
What does the external common carotid supply?
supplies extracranial tissues, including oral cavity
Key branches of the external carotid?
- Facial Artery
- Lingual Artery
- Superior Thyroid
- Maxillary Artery
What does the facial artery supply?
supplies muscles of facial expression, nose, soft palate, and pharynx
What does the lingual artery supply?
supplies suprahyoid, tongue, and floor of the mouth
What does the superior thyroid supply?
supplies thyroid and adjacent muscles
What does the maxillary artery supply?
supplies teeth, muscles of mastication, hard/soft palate, and nasal cavity
** BLOOD SUPPLY FOR MANDIBLE **
Major branches of the maxillary artery
- Inferior Alveolar
- Deep Temporalis
- Pterygoids
- Masseteric
- Buccal
- Posterior Superior Alveolar
- Infraorbital
- Greater Palatine
- Sphenopalatine
Further branches of the Inferior Alveolar artery?
- Mylohyoid
- Mental
- Incisive
Further branches of the Infraorbital artery?
- Orbital
- Anterior Superior Alveolar
