Arteries of the Spinal Cord
Anterior & posterior spinal arteries –
branches of vertebral artery
Segmental spinal branches of the rest of the arteries exclude C7-T2 & T2 to Lower
the anterior & posterior radicular arteries
Segmental spinal branches of C7-T2
-deep cervical and ascending cervical
Segmental spinal branches of T2 to lower end of the cord
Posterior intercostal lumbar arteries
Anterior spinal artery syndrome:
Occlusion due to thrombosis or compression of anterior spinal artery
What are the result of Anterior spinal artery syndrome:
Motor symptoms – due to involvement of corticospinal tract
* Bilateral loss of pain and temperature due to ischaemia of spinothalamic tracts
Venous drainage of spinal cord
The longitudinal veins communicates with the Inferior vena cava, Azygos vein and into the basilar venous plexus
