Blood Pressure Flashcards
Is laminar blood flow heard on a stethoscope?
No
How is MAP calculated?
(2x diastolic + systolic)/3
What is the normal range of MAP?
70 - 105 mm Hg
What MAP is needed to perfuse the coronary arteries, brain, and kidneys?
at least 60mmHg
Where are the two groups of baroreceptors?
aortic arch
carotid sinus
What do carotid baroreceptors signal to the medulla via?
CNIX
What do aortic baroreceptors signal to the medulla via?
CNX
What happens to MAP when someone stands up and what does this do?
decreases, reduces the rate of firing of baroreceptors, increasing sympathetic stimulation and therefore heart rate
What is postural hypertension the result of?
failure of Baroreceptor responses to gravitational shifts in blood, when moving from horizontal to vertical position
What happens to baroreceptor firing if high blood pressure is sustained?
decreases
What controls blood pressure in the longer term?
control of blood volume
