blood flow, drugs cardio vascular system Flashcards

1
Q

explain The redistribution of bloodflow during exercise?

A

working muscles need more oxygen and oxygen is attached to red blood cells in the blood. Your heart rate and stoke volume increases so more blood circulates every minute. Blood is diverted away from an active muscles and blood is shunted away from the stomach.

Q

what is meant by vasoconstriction?

A

Blood vessels constrict to make them smaller this happens because when you exercise chemical changes trigger signals from your nervous system.

Q

what is meant by vasodilation?

A

your blood vessels dilate therefore they get bigger because chemical changes trigger signals from the nervous system therefore more blood flow gets to the active muscles which means more oxygen.

Q

what for factors affect optimum weight?

A

height – taller people are usually heavier.
gender – males usually have more muscle therefore are heavier.
bone structure
muscle girth- more muscle equals more weight

15
Q

what three roles does the cardiovascular system have during exercise

A

transport oxygen in the blood to the working muscles
removed waste products
returns blood to the lungs for oxygenation

16
Q

what is the definition of heart rate?

A

number of times the heart beats per minute

17
Q

What is the definition of stroke volume?

A

the amount of blood leaving the heart each beat

18
Q

what is the definition of systolic blood pressure?

A

the pressure when blood is being pumped out of the heart.

19
Q

what are the immediate effects on the cardiovascular system when we exercise?

A

increase in heart rate, stroke volume and systolic blood pressure

20
Q

what are the lads by term effect on the cardiovascular system when we exercise

A

lower resting heart rate
increased number of red blood cells
stronger heart reduces chance of coronary heart disease

21
Q

what is meant by cardiac output

A

the amount of blood leaving the heart per minute

22
Q

what is meant by diastolic blood pressure

A

pressure in arteries whilst heart is relaxed- lower than systolic

23
Q

what happens if your blood pressure is too high

A

puts strain on your arteries and heart

24
Q

what is meant by cholesterol? how can it be caused?

A

high cholesterol - deposit to build up in arteries.

Eating too much saturated fat

25
Q

what are the effects of having a unhealthy diet?

A

fats build up in blood vessels- high blood pressure and cholesterol

26
Q

what are the immediate effects of the respiratory system?

A

increase breathing rate, depth of breath, removal of carbon dioxide & increase in the amount of oxygen taken into the lungs in each breath

27
Q

what is oxygen debt?

A

the extra amount of oxygen required after anaerobic exercise compared with the amount normally needed when at rest.

28
Q

what are the long term effects of regular exercise on the respiratory system

A

increased number of aveoli and strength of muscles.
increased strength of diaphragm
increased lung volume

29
Q

what’s meant by total lung capacity

A

the total volume of air in your lungs after your biggest breath in

30
Q

what is meant by total volume

A

the total amount breathed in and out in one cycle

31
Q

what is meant by vital capacity

A

the maximum you can forcefully breath in and out
