Blood Flow Flashcards
What is the primary function of the atria?
The atria pump blood down into ventricles
Why do ventricles require higher pressure to pump blood?
Because they have to pump blood a greater distance to the organs
What does the right ventricle pump blood to? (Extended)
pumps blood to the lungs,= close to the heart = less pressure is required.
What is the function of the left ventricle?
To generate enough pressure to pump blood to the rest of the body’s organs
What happens to heart rate during exercise? Why?
During exercise, the heart rate increases because the body needs more energy from respiration.
What do respiration processes require?
Respiration requires oxygen and glucose, both of which are carried in the blood.
What role does adrenaline play during physical activity?
When excited, adrenaline increases heart rate to supply muscles with more oxygen and glucose for activity.
