Define Blood Borne Pathogens(BBPs)
defined as infections that are present in human blood and can cause disease in humans.
What are some OPIMs?
Blood products, Semen, Vaginal Secretions, Spinal Fluid, Lung Fluid, any bodily fluid that is visibly contaminated with blood, and any bodily fluid that you cannot tell what it is.
What are some fluids that are not expected to be infectious unless they are visibly contaminated with blood?
Urine, Feces, vomit, tears, sweat, spit, and nasal secretions.
Describe how to transmit BBPs and OPIMs?
Needle stick injury, any other laceration by a contaminated object, open cut/wound/weeping lesion, and eyes/mouth/nose
What are the four ways diseases are transmitted?
Parenteral exposure, Mucous membrane exposure, Sexual contact, infected women.
Types of diseases?
HIV, Hep B, Hep C
