Blood And Blood Cells Flashcards
Blood contents
Plasma - 90 %H2O, 8% - protein (Albumin, Antibody, Fibrinogen), 2 % hormones , electrolytes, nutrients, WBC and platelets. RBC
Hematocrit
Volume of RBC in blood. High - Polycythemia, Low - Anemia
Red blood cells
RBCs have hemoglobin -> has affinity to o2-> can associate o2 and dissociate too.
Blood types
AB -> AB, A, B, O, Universal receiver - A-> A, O, B-> B,O, O->O, universal donor
Blood cell lineage
Pluripotent Hematopoietic stem cells -> differentiate into various blood cells
Life and times of RBCs and platelets
RBC - 120 day, RBC gets chewed up by Monocyte in spleen. Platelets gets damaged by Monocytes too.
Triggers for Erythropoietin production (kidney) - low o2 in body
Triggers for Thrombopoietin production - less platelets
