- to increase circulating blood volume

How much blood does an adult have?
Females have around 4-5L and males have around 5-6L
What are the types of blood collection?
directed donation, homologous donation and autologous donation
Define directed donation
donations made by a donor chosen for or by the recipient
Define homologous donation
compatible blood donor– the type of donation that happens when you donate through CBS
Define autologous donation
pre-operative– collection of your own blood 3-4 weeks before schedule surgery (up to 5 units)
What is the recommended rate for initial blood transfusion?
50mL (slow) to check for signs of adverse reactions within the first 15 min
