A connective tissue without extracellular matrix
What are the components of plasma?
Water (90%)
Electrolytes (Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, Cl- …)
Nutrients (glucose, lipids, amino acids)
Non-proteins nitrogen substances (urea, uric acid, creatinine etc…)
Gases ( carbon, oxygen, nitrogen)
What are the characteristics of neutrophils?
Nucleus in several lobe
Clearly visible granules
Pinkish
What are the characteristics of eosinophils?
Bi-lobed nucleus
Same size granules
Red and brown
What are the characteristics of basophils
Bi or tri-lobed
Dominant purple granules vary in size
What are the characteristics of monocytes?
Large sausage/kidney bean shaped nucleus
no apparent granules
Blueish cytoplasm
What are the functions of neutrophils?
Phagocytose foreign substances
Destroy infected cells
What are the functions of eosinophils?
Dampen an immune reaction after its peak
Defence against parasites
Allergic reaction and asthma
What are the functions of basophils
Allergic reaction and asthma
Release vasoactive substances similar to mast cells
What is the function of macrophages?
Phagocytose
