What is co-operative binding?

A

When 1st oxygen binds to haemoglobin, it changes shape of the haemoglobin molecule.
2nd oxygen changes shape for 3rd oxygen to bind.
3rd oxygen molecule does no induce a shape change, therefore the 4th oxygen attaches only if there is a shape change.
