Blood Flashcards
red blood cells (they dont have nuclei when mature)
erythrocytes
white blood cells
leukocytes
smaller then RBC. they form clots to stop bleeding
platelets
% of blood occupied by RBC
hematocrit
low hematocrit (inability of blood to bind sufficient O2)
anemia
high hematocrit
polycythemia
the two major groups of leukocytes
granulocytes and agranulocytes
what are the three granulocytes
neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils
what are the two agranulocytes
lymphocytes and monocytes
multi-lobed nucleus, light pink dots in cytoplasm, most numerous.
neutrophils
bi-lobed nucleus, dark red dots in cytoplasm
eosinophils
very dark purple dots in cytoplasm, least common
basophils
tiny cells, very little cytoplasm. Huge nucleus.
lymphocytes
huge cells, hazy blue cytoplasm with no dots. large kidney-shaped nucleus.
monocytes
megakaryocyte
rare cells found in bone marrow whose function is to make platelets
