They form blood clots
What is the second main thing in blood called?
Red blood cells
What do red blood cells contain and what does it do?
Haemoglobin which binds reversibly to oxygen
Do red blood cells have a nucleus?
No
Why don’t red blood cells have a nucleus?
So there is more space for haemoglobin
What are the discs of red blood cells like?
Biconcave disc shape
What is a bonus of red blood cells have a biconcave disc shape?
They have a larger surface area for absorbing oxygen
What is the third main thing in blood called?
White blood cells
What 2 things are in white blood cells?
Lymphocytes + phagocytes
What do lymphocytes do?
Create antibodies (which kill pathogens)
What do phagocytes do?
Engulf pathogens
