Blocks Flashcards
Blocks are breaks or impediments to the smooth flow of Qi. Why must a block be cleared?
To allow the treatment to hold effectively.
To allow healing to occur.
Internal and External Dragons have specific treatments. What are the points for IDs and EDs?
IDs
Master point 1/4 inch below CV 15
ST 25
ST 32
ST 41
EDs
GV 20
BL 11
BL 23
BL 61
What is the treatment protocol for IDs and EDs?
Normally start with IDs unless strong reason to start with EDs
Insert all needles right to left, top to bottom, straight in, full fen depth with small dispersion action. (If done as Tonification treatment, insert left to right)
Disperse (or tonify) in same order as inserted
Look for changes and remove same order as inserted
If not change, go back and tonify left to right, top to bottom and remove needles as you go
follow by testing for AE in same or next treatment
If IDs did not clear, perform EDs
What is Aggressive Energy?
A block created by independently circulating toxic or polluted energy that moves along the K’o cycle.
Caused by internal or external stressors that the Official is unable to cope with.
The test is also the treatment
How do you diagnose AE?
The test for AE is erythema around the needles that is darker or lasts longer than erythema around test needle.
AE is passed along the K’o cycle with signs and symptoms showing up along the K’o cycle.
List clinical significance of AE
Must be used to prevent spread to other official.
May need to be cleared to identify CSOE
Usually first treatment done on patient unless possession is diagnosed (will not drain if patient is possessed)
Is drained through Yin official
What is the treatment for AE
BL 13 LU
BL 14 PC
BL 15 HT
BL 18 LR
BL 20 SP
BL 23 KI
Insert needles Right to Left, top to bottom except in BL 15, which is inserted after all other points have cleared.
Insert test needles, one per Jiao
Test BL 15 HT for AE after redness cleared in other points.
Treatment of HW Block
1st: Check for AE so not to spread through meridians
2nd: Transfer from Metal to Water - Tonificiation points BL 67 KI 7
3rd: Transfer across the K’o Cycle from Metal to Wood
4th: Tonify sources on HT and SI
HT 7 and SI 4
If not: Tonify the AEP of LR and KI
Akabanes are used to test for what and when are they used?
They are used to test for the imbalance of energy from Left/Right side on a single meridian.
Tested during TD, after AE, and when there are one sided symptoms.
Which side of patient do you begin an Akabane treatment?
Left side
What reading is needed to confirm an Akabane imbalance?
A difference of at least 1/3.
List the treatment protocol for Akabane Imbalance
- Tonify the Junction Point on deficient side
- If not corrected, tonify Source point on deficient side
- If not corrected tonify both Jct and Source.
- If not corrected, add moxa on Jct and/or Source.
- If not corrected, disperse Jct point on excess side, tonify Jct on deficient side.
- If not corrected, tonify AEP on deficient side
- Treat CF for a while, recheack akabanes
If the Akabane protocol does not correct the imbalance, what should you do?
It could be a structural block and may need other care, chiropractic, osteopathic, or other body work.
What is the order of treatment of multiple akabane imbalances?
If on CF, treat CF meridians first
Treat mother of CF
Treat the one that is most off
Treat meridian that has the one-sided imbalance
Go around Sheng cycle, starting with CF or unbalanced meridian after CF first.
CV/GV block - how is it diagnosed?
How is the CV/GV block treated?
All pulses are very low, -2.5 or -3
Tonify in the following order:
CV 1
CV 24
GV 1
GV 28
