Applying certain standards and or procedures to determine the amount payable on a claim, if any.
Adjudication
A payment made in advance of the final settlement of a claim. Such payment applies only to certain claims. If they claim is later tonight, not filed, or the amount of the final word is less than amount of the advance payment, the staff judge advocate will initiate recoupment action.
Advance payment
Web-based Armed Forces claims information management system. This is a computer software program that allows claims offices to electronically adjudicate claims. It also collects data and provides monthly reports that allow legal officers to brief commanders at all levels.
WebAFCIMS
A request by the claimant to reevaluate their claim.
Appeal
In the event someone other than the proper claimant presents a claim, evidence authorizing this action must be included in the claim file. This evidence may be in the form of a power of attorney, court order, or other legal document.
Authority to execute a claim
Any person or corporation, including a legal representative, with authority to act on a claimants behalf. Some common examples of authorized agents include a family member, friend, or an attorney.
Authorized agent
Civilian employee of the US government who is paid from appropriated or non-appropriated funds. Civilian employees include volunteer workers, but do not include contractors or their employees.
Civilian personnel
Any signed, written demand made upon or by the Air Force for the payment of a specific song. It does not include any obligations at the Air Force acquires in the regular procurement of services, supplies, equipment, or real estate.
Claim
The dominant or primary cause of an injury or
Proximate cause
An individual, partnership, association, corporation, country, state, or territory that files a claim.
Claimant
The last administrative decision to deny claim.
Final denial
The territorial area that the staff judge advocate has responsibility for, in the event of a claim arises. Commonly referred to as a jurisdiction or area of responsibility.
Geographic area of claims responsibility
Individual uniform members of the arm forces.
Military personnel
To pay or deny a claim, in full or in part.
Settle
Any person authorized to settle the claim.
