Q

What 3 fuels are used on T700 engines?

A

The Primary fuel is JP-5 (NATO Code F-44) used for both shore and shipboard. The alternate fuel is JP-8 (NATO Code F-34), not used onboard ships due to a low flashpoint. The restricted fuel is JP-4 (NATO Code F-40).

Q

Describe the Main Rotor Head:

A

Fully articulated rotor head and it rotates counterclockwise when viewed from above. The main rotor head transmits the movements of the flight controls to the four main rotor blades. When the main rotor head is rotating above 35%, centrifugal force pulls the anti-flap assemblies outward. This holds them in their unlocked positions to permit flapping of the main rotor blades.

Q

Describe the Tail Rotor:

A

The tail rotor consists of two tail paddle assemblies. Each tail paddle consists of two tail rotor blades. The purpose of the tail rotor blades is to counteract the torque of the main rotor head and to provide directional control in the yaw axis.

Q

H-60R Fuel cell locations?

A

The main fuel cells are located on the Port and Starboard sides, at the aft end of the cabin section. The lower third is self-sealing up to 7.62 rounds.

Q

Fuel Cell capabilities and capacities?

A

Each main fuel cell is capable of holding a maximum of 300 gallons (2,040 pounds) of fuel. The External auxiliary fuel tanks (drop tanks) are capable of carrying one port and one starboard drop tank. Are carried on the left inboard and right inboard weapons stations. And have a maximum capacity of 120 gallons (816 pounds).

Q

Describe Fuel flow control during fueling operations:

A

During fueling operations, the pre-check valves shall significantly reduce or stop fuel flow to main fuel cells within 5 – 10 seconds.
Fuel flow reduction or stoppage within 5 – 10 seconds indicates high level sensors are working properly.

Q

What are the 2 methods to fuel an H-60?

A

Pressure fueling, the receptacle for which is located on the port side of the aircraft on the aft cabin section. The second is gravity fueling, which is located on the port side of the aircraft on the aft cabin section above the pressure refueling receptacle.

Q

Describe Bleed Air:

A

There are three different pneumatic sources for engine start. They include external ground source, the APU and engine cross bleed.
The engines provide bleed-air for engine and inlet anti-icing, environmental control system (ECS) operation, and crossbleed engine starting.

Q

Primary/Secondary functions of Main Transmission System?

A

The primary function of the main transmission system is to drive and support the main rotor and the tail rotor. The secondary function is to drive the accessory modules and the utility hydraulic system pump.

15
Q

Main Transmission location/usage?

A

The Main transmission is located on top of the helicopter in the center of the main rotor pylon. It utilizes input power from the input modules to drive the main rotor head, tail drive shafts (via the tail takeoff flange), accessory modules, and utility hydraulic pump.

16
Q

What is the purpose of Metal Chip Detectors?

A

Metal chip detectors are installed on each gearbox. Their function is to detect metal chips in the gearbox and send a signal to the cockpit indication a chip has been detected. The chip detector is equipped with fuzz burn off so that when fine shavings are detected, they are immediately burned off.

17
Q

What is the Free Wheel Unit?

A

The free wheel unit allows the main transmission to spin freely of the engines if the transmission rotates faster than the engine input gear.

18
Q

Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) characteristics:

A

The APU supplies pneumatic power for engine start, provides bleed air to the ECS system and provides limited electrical power for ground operations, in-flight emergencies and backup hydraulic pump power.

19
Q

What are the two types of APU’s?

A

Turbo Mach and the Garrett.
