Block 2 Mediastinum Flashcards
two subdivisions of mediastinum
superior, inferior
inferior portion of mediastinum is subdivided into blank
anterior, middle, posterior
lymph nodes in the mediastinum should be blank and not really noticeable in cadavers
tiny
thymus is located in which part of mediastinum
anterior as well as superior/inferior
arteries in the anterior mediastinum
internal thoracics
two terminal branches of internal thoracic artery
musculophrenic, superior epigastric artery
branch of internal thoracic artery that supplies intercostal spaces
anterior intercostal artery
branch of internal thoracic that supplies phrenic nerve
pericardiophrenic artery
vena cava are on this side of vertebral column
right
two branches of superior vena cava
right/left brachiocephalic veins
arterial strucutres are on blank side of vertebral column
left
three branches off arch of aorta
brachiocephalic, left common carotid, left subclavian
only the blank nerve is in the superior mediastinum
left recurrent laryngeal
obstruction of svc leading to fluid accumulation and edemai in the head, neck , and upper limbs
superior vena cava syndrome
when left vertebral artery arises from the aortic arch, it arises between the blank and blank arteries
left common carotid, left subclavian arteries
descending aorta passes through the blank mediastinum
posterior
trachea bifurcates into right and left primary bronchi at blank
carina (beneath angle of louis)
primary bronchi are located in blank mediastinum
middle
thoracic duct drains lymph from the entire body except from here
right side of head, neck, upper right extremity, right side of thorax
this drains right side of head, neck, upper right extremity, right side of thorax
lymphatic duct
left vagus nerve gives rise to this nerve
recurrent laryngeal nerve
contents of posterior mediastinum
esophagus and vagal plexus, descending aorta, thoracic duct, azygos veins, splanchnic nerves
greater splanchnic nerve has these fibers
visceral afferent, visceral efferent
azygos vein is on the blank and drains the intercostal spaces on this side
right
hemiazygos vein is on the blank and drains the intercostal spaces on this side
left
