Q

What does the bendix do?

A

Acts like a jack screw and is attached to the starter. Once the starter begins the bendix engages and unscrews, engaging the flywheel.

Q

What moves the piston?
What does the piston move?
What does the connecting rod move?
What does the crankshaft move?

Keep going until you reach the valve.

A

Expansion of gasses moves the piston
Piston moves the connecting rod
Connecting rod moves the crankshaft
The crankshaft moves the crankshaft gear

Q

What are camshaft lobes:

A

Oval protrusions attached to the camshaft that push up and actuate the cam rollers which push the push rod up to the rocker arm.

Q

How is a two stroke engine different than a 4 stroke?

A

No Standing Oil

Fuel/air mixture comes to bottom o crank case and when piston comes down it enter cylinder. When piston goes up it fires and comes out as the piston makes it’s way down again.

Q

In an ARCHER with a constant speed prop:

Pitching forward you don’t adjust any other controls, initially what will happen?

A

AOA on blade will decrease because of an increase in your speed.

14
Q

What do the flywheels do?

A

Fly outward, taking the weight of the prop.
Prop will move at a higher RPM

RPM is always opposite pitch

Q

Aerodynamic Twisting on a constant speed propeller will try and bring blades to a ______ pitch because it wants to ________ the blade to _______ with the ________________

A

Aerodynamic Twisting on a constant speed propeller will try and bring blades to a lower pitch because it wants to flatten the blade to align with the relative wind.

17
Q

Before I start the engine, manifold pressure will read

A

Slightly under Altimeter Pressure

18
Q

Part 23 does what?

A

Outlines certifications for GA

19
Q

What’s the difference between AD’s and Service Bulletins?

A

AD’s are mandatory, SB’s are a last ditch effort to get people to comply without having to make an AD.

20
Q

If I rent a plane can I do preventative maintenance?

A

NO, only owner/operator can do preventative maintenance on an aircraft.
