Block 1 Exam Flashcards
Once Fuel / Air is mixed where does it go?
And from there on?
When do spark plugs fire, when does ignition happen?
Intake manifold (in) Intake Valve Cylinder Compression Stroke Combustion Stroke Exhaust Valve (out) Exhaust Manifold Muffler Exhaust Pipe
On a single cylinder 4 stroke engine how many combustion stages occur.
Once every two rotations of the crankshaft.
Which indicator shows power output with a constant speed prop?
Manifold Pressure Gauge
Which indicator shows power output in a fixed pitch propeller?
Tachometer
What would cause the AOA on a fixed pitch propeller to increase?
Decrease in speed.
Trading a 7252 propeller to a 7256 what would be affected and how?
Cruise Performance would increase
Takeoff Performance would decrease
What does the bendix do?
Acts like a jack screw and is attached to the starter. Once the starter begins the bendix engages and unscrews, engaging the flywheel.
4 cycles of 4 stroke engine:
Intake
Compression
Combustion
Exhaust
5 parts of a turbine Engine:
Intake Compression Combustion Turbine Exhaust
What moves the piston?
What does the piston move?
What does the connecting rod move?
What does the crankshaft move?
Keep going until you reach the valve.
Expansion of gasses moves the piston
Piston moves the connecting rod
Connecting rod moves the crankshaft
The crankshaft moves the crankshaft gear
Camshaft Gear Camshaft Cam Lobes Cam Roller Push Rod Rocker Bar Valve Spring Opens Valve
What are camshaft lobes:
Oval protrusions attached to the camshaft that push up and actuate the cam rollers which push the push rod up to the rocker arm.
How is a two stroke engine different than a 4 stroke?
No Standing Oil
Fuel/air mixture comes to bottom o crank case and when piston comes down it enter cylinder. When piston goes up it fires and comes out as the piston makes it’s way down again.
In an ARCHER with a constant speed prop:
Pitching forward you don’t adjust any other controls, initially what will happen?
AOA on blade will decrease because of an increase in your speed.
What do the flywheels do?
Fly outward, taking the weight of the prop.
Prop will move at a higher RPM
RPM is always opposite pitch
Benefits of a Radial Engine?
Better Cooling
Better Harmonics (less vibration)
Power to Weight Ratio
