PPE
Disposable gloves, other PPE appropriate for the scene
Indications
Significant haemorrhage from large wounds not controlled by simple techniques
Large wounds in challenging areas such as torso or amputated limb
Cautions
Be aware of the amount of pressure applied with elastic dressing
Prepare equipment
Check expiry date, packaging intact, remove packaging,
Prepare patient
Explain the procedure and gain consent
Ensure the wound is ready to be dressed
Apply dressing
Use the bandage to cover the would and gather all loose tissue inside
Wrap dressing
Wrap the bandage part of the
dressing over the wound/limb to
keep the dressing in place
Secure at regular sections to apply pressure.
Ensure the velcro Is stuck down at the end and the plastic hooks are secured
Reassess
Reassess the site for bleeding
Further pressure can be applied directly on top or covering with a second blast bandage
Report
Accurately document and handover. Site of injury, type of injury
