Blackwells Flashcards
one of the most famous book shops in the world
Blackwell’s is one of the most famous bookshops in the world. It has been at
number 53 Broad Street since 1883, and was established by a guy called…..[invite the group to guess] – yes a guy called Blackwell.
The bookshop started it’s life as being two meters squared - which meant if the owner and assistance was on the shop floor at the same time, there was no room for any customers. Since then it has undergone a big renovation - like a lot of buildings in Oxford, this has taken place underground.
The Norrington Room now has over 3 miles of shelving space, it is over 10,00 square feet - a pretty dramatic transformation from its original
creation here on Broad Street. Any fans of Inspector Morse might notice that this was often used in a lot of filming.
