James Meredith, a black student at the university of Mississippi. 1966 he planned to encourage black voter registration through marching through Mississippi.

he was shot by a white racist, injured and hospitalised

that march carried out by SNCC and SCLC
what showed that there was a divide in the civil rights movement during the march?
King’s SCLC chanted “freedom now” whilst Carmichael’s SNCC chanted “black power”
what did Carmichael believe
he urged black Americans to reject interracial protests and instead encouraged solidarity.
- he wanted eventual integration but not until white saw blacks as equal.
