- The Black Panther party (1966) was a political activist group to prevent police brutality. Many died in their fight
- 2013’s BLM protest may have inspired the film

- Directed by Ryan Coogler
- Produced by Disney, who bought marvel in 2008. Disney is both horizontally and vertically integrated
- Marvel studios began making films in the late 90s and early 2000s.
- BP is a mainstream film that came from CA: Civil War who introduced the character
- Grossed 1 billion worldwide, won Oscars for production design, costume and soundtrack.

- Disney used a 360 degree consumer experience
- Targeted a diverse audience through Hasbro toys, Lexus cars and Interscope records (Kendrick Lamar)
- Teased at NBA games which have a huge audience, targeted a big range of people.
- ‘Welxome to wakanda’ catwalk show.
- 44% of pwople on opening weekend were female.
- Trailer released in June 2017 on ABC during NBA finals: within 24 hours it had been viewed 89 million times.

- 12A certificate due to the violence being Sci fi based and unrealistic
- Violence also had moral reasoning.
- Marvel likely kept it in this band in purpose to maximise the audience: a lot of their audience are younger fans who wouldn’t be able to see if it was rated a 15.

- Huge amount of the cast was female, who all took the roles typically given to white males.
