A

The power is divided between three branches : Legislative, Executive, Judiciary ; to make sure a King can’t take control of all the power

A

Movement against the US Constitution. They prefered the Articles of Confederation because it gave individual states more power.

A

A lot of individual protection, making sure police can’t invade personal space, or force you to answer questions.
Your rights need to be said outloud to you.
Death penalty is not considered cruel but torture is.
Powers that are not given to the US by the constitution belongs to the states or the people.

A

A

A federal territory created from multiple ceded land.
Slavery was prohibited in the Northwest territories and in any state that would be formed there.

A

Part of the new independent Mexico, occupied by both Americans and Spanish settlers. It brought religion tension and also a slavery disagreement.
Lead to armed conflict then Texas declared independence: The Republic of Texas.

A

1845, US annexed Texas because they were scared another empire would take power. It became the largest American State, and the last slave state to be admitted to the Union before the civil war.

A

US expansionism as the will of God. but it also meant the expension of slavery.

A

US won south-western states, including California where Gold was discovered.

How was a state created?

A

Settlers in a federal territories would build a local government, electing mayors, judges, sheriffs etc. They could then petition congress for statehood.
