Manic episode
A
- abnormal persistent elevated or irritable mood for at least 1w
- increased self esteem/grandiosity
- decreased need for sleep
- pressured speech/thought
- distractibility
- psychomotor agitation (increased goal-directed activity)
- excessive involvement in pleasurable activities

Hypomanic episode
A
Abnormal persistent elevated or irritable mood for at least 4d, clearly different from the normal, non-depressed mood
- same Sx as manic but lesser degree
- change in mood & functioning is uncharacteristic (may be slight)
- no psychotic Sx
