Biotic and Abiotic factors Flashcards
what is a species
a group of organisms that can interbreed to produce fertile offspring
what is a habitat
an area where organisms live
what is a population
a group of the same species that live in a particular area
what is a community
all the different organisms that live in a particular area
what is an ecosystem
all the organisms and the environment in which they live
types of ecosystems
tropical rainforest, deciduous forest, coniferous forest, savannah grassland, desert, tundra
what is an abiotic factor
non-living parts of the environment that can often have a major influence on living organisms
name types of abiotic factors
light intensity, temperature, moisture levels, soil pH and mineral content, wind intensity and direction, CO2 levels for plans, 02 levels for aquatic animals
name types of biotic factors
availability of food, new predators arriving, new pathogens, one species outcompeting another so the numbers are no longer sufficient to breed
what piece of equipment would you use to measure light intensity
light thermometer
