biopsychology: the fight or flight response Flashcards
Describe the changes that happen in the body during the fight or flight response
increased heart rate, blood pressure and breathing rate
Describe the changes that happen in the body to return to the rest and digest state
the parasympathetic nervous system is activated to return the body back to its ‘normal’ resting state. Consequently, the parasympathetic nervous system slows down our heart rate and breathing rate and reduces our blood pressure
Outline the functions of the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems in the fight or flight
response
our sympathetic nervous system is in control by activating our fight or flight response for as long as it is deemed necessary. on the other hand, your parasympathetic nervous system sends signals when it’s okay to relax all those reactions and systems.
Name the hormone/s released in the flight or fight response. Which gland are they released from?
adrenaline and stress released from the adrenal gland
