Biopsychology (paper 2) Flashcards
What does the CNS consist of?
The brain and spinal cord
What is the CNS responsible for?
Controlling important physiological processes (e.g. breathing and heart rate)
What are the four lobes in each hemisphere of the cerebrum?
o Frontal lobe
o Parietal lobe
o Temporal lobe
o Occipital lobe
What is the frontal lobe responsible for?
Voluntary movement, decision making, problem solving, planning
What is the parietal lobe responsible for?
Reception and processing of sensory information
What is the temporal lobe responsible for?
Language and speech production, memory association and formation
What is the occipital lobe responsible for?
Visual processing
What is the cerebellum responsible for?
Muscle coordination and allowing precise, controlled movements to be made
What is the brain stem responsible for?
Regulating the automatic functions of the body that maintain life (e.g. breathing, heartbeat)
What is the function of the spinal cord?
Transmitting information between the brain and the rest of the body
What is the role of the PNS?
Supports the actions of the CNS
What is the PNS made up of?
The somatic and autonomic nervous system
