Biomes and Food Security Flashcards
Types of natural biomes
- Forest
- desert
- tropical
- aquatic
- tundra
- glass land
How do biomes differ and why?
Biomes differ in the amount of precipitation they receive, their temperatures and the life that inhabits each biome
Why are soil and climate important for biomes?
Soils important because we rely on it to produce food.
Climates are important because it determines plant growth and influences the number and variety of other organisms in a biome
How have people altered biomes to produce food?
Clearing of natural vegetation, buildings, roads, fertilisers and pesticides etc
Positive impacts of people use of biomes
.Could preserve and protect the area and homes of wildlife
Negative impact of people use of biomes
Could damage the environment
Healesville - types of farms and impacts on the natural environment
.gerbera (flower production), alpaca, fruit/orchard
Variations in vegetation, which interfere with the homes and food for wildlife
Healesville processes used to produce food products
Clearing of natural vegetation, flattening of land, fertilisers, pesticides, buildings, roads, electricity, extra water
Why are some farms located near cities and others located far away?
Because they’re coorperated with bigger companies such as maccas, woolies etc
How do you describe patterns displayed on graphs and maps?
you explain why the results shown the pattern they do.
Bottom of graph is independent variable and side is dependant Variable
Australian biomes - types and locations
Temperate forests, Rainforests, desert, grassland, fresh water
