What is a Biome?
A biome is an area of the planet that can be classified according to the plants and animals that live in it. Temperature, soil, and the amount of light and water help determine what life exists in a biome.
Coniferous Forest
Coniferous forests are home to evergreen trees that bear needles and cones, adapting to cold or dry climates
Tropical Rainforest
A rainforest were there is no dry season – all months have an average precipitation of at least 60 mm – and may also be referred to as lowland equatorial evergreen rainforest. True rainforests are typically found between 10 degrees north and south of the equator.
Alpine
A type of tundra located near the tops of mountains
Benthos
Organisms that live at the bottom of the ocean
Terrestrial
A biome that is found on land
Rainforest
A type of forest with heavy rainfall
Aquatic
A minor biome that has freshwater and saltwater
Photic zone
The area in a marine biome where it’s shallow enough for light to pass through
Arid
Little or no rain
Polar
A type of tundra located at the North and South poles
Grassland
A large biome covered in grass
Deciduous
A biome with 4 seasons
Wetland
A minor biome that has bodies of water such as swamps or marshes
Temperate
A climate with mild temperatures
