Biomechanics Exam 1 Review Flashcards
What is Kinematics?
The study of motion without consideration for what is causing the motion.
What is kinetics?
The study of the forces that cause motion
What is the difference between a scalar and a vector?
Scalar is a quantity that only has a magnitude whereas vector is a quantity that has a magnitude and direction.
What is displacement and the symbol for it?
The change in position. ΔP
What does distance mean?
How far a body has traveled?
True or False.
A body’s displacement can be positive if the initial and final positions are both negative.
True.
What is speed?
How fast a body is moving
What is velocity and its symbol?
How fast something is moving in a particular direction
What is relative velocity?
How fast one body is moving in relation to another body
What is acceleration and its symbol?
How rapidly something is changing velocity whether it is speeding up or slowing down.
What does Gait mean?
Locomotion over land. (Walking, running, skipping, etc)
What is the definition of a step?
The period from the initial contact of one foot to the initial contact with the other foot.
What is a stride?
The period from initial contact of one foot to the next initial contact of the same foot.
What is the formula of Gait Velocity and does one variable influence more than the other?
Step Rate x Step length, they are both equally important.
What is jerk?
Rate of change in acceleration
