Biomechanical factors and concepts Flashcards
1
Q
Simple machines
A
enables us to apply a relatively small force (effort) to move a much greater resistance; enables us to move one point of an object a relatively small distance to result in a relatively large amount of movement of another point of the same object. Ex: lever, wheel and axle, pulley
2
Q
First class lever
A
FAR; axis is placed anywhere between the force and the resistance. ex: crowbar, seesaw, pliers
3
Q
Second class lever
A
ARF; R is somewhere between the axis and the F. ex: bottle opener, wheel barrow, nut cracker
4
Q
Third class lever
A
AFR; F is placed somewhere between the axis and the R. ex: catapult
5
Q
Torque
A
moment of force; Force (magnitude) x force arm
